Father’s Day 2015

Father’s Day. It’s an interesting holiday. On the surface, one might be fooled into thinking it’s on par with Mother’s Day. But any of us who have had a mother, been married to a mother, or been a mother know that isn’t true (if you are keeping score, that’s pretty much everyone). Forbes ran a story a couple of years ago comparing spending for moms vs for dads (hint: mom won). Even the way we celebrate moms v dads tends to be different. Maybe the kids bring mom breakfast in bed, or the family goes to brunch or lunch at a nice restaurant. On Father’s Day, dad can be found manning the grill...

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” As a child, when I heard Andy Williams singing the first line of that wonderful song on my parents’ stereo, I knew the Holiday Season was starting, and that meant weeks or fun, decorations, and anticipation. Time spent at my grandparents’ house, seeing extended family… I truly loved every minute of it. Merry Christmas wasn’t a toss away phrase; it was a heartfelt expression of both what I felt and what I wished for others to have. Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence. As private investigators, we often see the ugly side of people and our world. But certainly one of the most upsetting situations we encounter is violence in the home. Stores all over the state will have sales going on during the three days as well, meaning that you can find some good deals if you are looking. Keep in mind, for every $100 you spend, you will save on average $8 (depending on the amount of local...

12 Days of Christmas Tips – Day 12: Holiday Tipping

People’s approach to holiday tipping seems to vary in different regions of the United States and around the world. For those of us the in Dallas – Ft. Worth metroplex, figuring out who we should tip at the holidays, and how much we should tip, does not necessarily come naturally to us. I checked with the Emily Post Institute, and even the vaunted oracle of all things civilized and appropriate says, “It depends.” My opinion is that there is no one right or wrong answer. Ultimately, you should let your instincts be your guide about what is appropriate or not...

12 Days of Christmas Tips – Day 9: Most Popular Toys

Anyone with children knows that around this time of year toy companies are pushing the latest and greatest toys, kids’ shows on TV are over-saturated with ads for them, and of course, your child wants one of them. My days of buying the most popular toys for my children are long gone, and I’m not quite there yet to need to buy them for grandchildren. Nonetheless, after my copious research, here are some of the most popular toys of the season. The descriptions are NOT my own… they come from various places selling these bundles of Christmas Morning Joy. Your mileage may vary! Each title...
