Don’t Be a Victim During the Holidays

I love this time of the year. For me, the Christmas season IS “the most wonderful time of the year,” filled with fun, family and happy memories. However, with the holiday season upon us, we also need to remember that this is a high crime time of the year. Fortunately, you can do things to protect yourself; easy precautions that can help greatly reduce your chance of becoming a victim during the holidays. While I have always preached “situational awareness” it has never been as important as it is in today’s society. Go outside to a busy sidewalk and watch people...

Exercise Your Right to Vote!

The statistics are always disappointing. So many people in our society fail to exercse their right to vote on a regular basis. You have heard the saying, “If you don’t vote, you lose the right to complain.” While I agree with the sentiment, I fear that it almost helps perpetuate the lack of engagement that so much of our voting eligible public demonstrates. So how many people are actually voting? Accoring to FairVote.org, it depends on if it is a preseidential election year. Of course, that only happens every 4 years, but we have national elections every 2 years, which we...

Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Domestic Violence. As private investigators, we often see the ugly side of people and our world. But certainly one of the most upsetting situations we encounter is violence in the home. If there is one place where we should all feel safe and protected, it is in our home. Sometimes I think we should find a different term. Domestic Violence sounds somewhat clinical. Wife beater. Child abuse. Broken bones. Closed fist punches. Fear. Threats....

Irving Laughs by the Lake

If you are looking for something fun to do, that won’t cost you a lot of money, consider attending Irving Laughs By the Lake, an evening of comedy and music located in Las Colinas along the banks of Lake Carolyn. It all is happening this Friday night, July 18. Admission is FREE (always my favorite price), and features open lawn seating, so you will want to bring a blanket or a lawn chair. They will be selling food and drinks, and of course it is July in Texas, so hot weather is the norm, but the weather forecast currently says that we will have a high of only 82 degrees that day, and...

A Photo ID Is Now Required to Vote in Texas

If you have voted in the past in Texas, you may know that simply presenting a voter registration card was adequate proof to be allowed to vote. This is no longer true; a photo ID is now required to vote in Texas. Two years ago the Texas Legislature passed a law that requires any person in Texas to produce a driver’s license or some other form of photo identification in order to vote. However, because of Federal voting rights laws, enforcement of this state law has been on hold. On Tuesday this changed, when the Supreme Court of the United States made a significant ruling, striking down...
